Building Dreams with 1Mission

Building Dreams with 1Mission

"I am very grateful for K2 to take the time to come out and build my home, as it is a dream come true"

In the heart of Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, our team recently embarked on a mission beyond our usual business endeavors. We traveled with a shared purpose: to build a home for the Peñuelas Hernandez Family. This endeavor left an indelible mark on their lives and provided our team with unforgettable memories to bring back home.

Nine years ago, Alma and Jesus crossed paths in Mexicali, and their journey together led them to Puerto Peñasco in 2018. With a vibrant 5-year-old son, Andre, attending primary school, the Family’s dream of homeownership began four years ago. However, the current reality sees them residing with Alma’s mother-in-law, eagerly anticipating the day they can move into their new home. Over the past year, Alma has actively participated in 1Mission, contributing her time and effort to complete the required 400 hours of community service. The family’s commitment to homeownership extends beyond community service. Alma’s night shift job adds an additional layer of dedication, with her husband having two jobs and taking turns staying overnight to safeguard the property and construction materials.

Alma expressed profound gratitude for K2 Electric, whose support and dedication played a pivotal role in turning her dream into a reality. “I am very grateful for K2 to take the time to come out and build my home, as it is a dream come true,” she shared. Alma felt supported and welcomed by the K2 family, emphasizing her eagerness to stay in touch and provide updates on the progress and completion of her home.

Our journey with the Peñuelas Hernandez Family in Puerto Peñasco has been more than a construction project; it’s been a collaborative effort to build dreams and transform lives.  As we eagerly anticipate the completion of their home, our team is reminded that every nail, every wall, and every shared moment has contributed to creating a lasting impact in the lives of the Peñuelas Hernandez Family.

Coffee Talks with Sean Salveson

Coffee Talks with Sean Salveson

“The goal is to bring unity to the team through freedom of communication.” -Sean Salveson, VP of Operations.

Sean holds regular town hall meetings called Coffee Talks. The purpose is to give a voice to our K2 teammates who may not be in other meetings to keep them in the loop of all that is happening within our company. About 75% of K2 is in the field, and they can often feel disconnected from internal messages they’ve missed, so the Coffee Talks help bridge that gap.

The meetings usually happen over a conference call so employees can easily join. Sean opens the call with gratitude for all attendees and promptly invites them to start the discussion. He tries to speak as little as possible as he is there to listen attentively and provide realistic solutions. Topics can range from the need for specific equipment to accommodating schedules. Every person in the meeting is encouraged to speak, as it is important to Sean that they feel heard.

The Coffee Talks are not all issue-related; they also celebrate the triumphs of our team. We are working to find the golden time for employees to attend so that it is consistent with their schedules. He would like to have as many people as possible join the calls so we can address problems and concerns to actively work on solutions. .

K2 is proud to see the effectiveness of the Coffee Talks prove itself. We are happy to provide a space for our teammates to express themselves while having transparency from leadership. These meetings will continue to grow as they unite us!

20-Year Milestone Luncheon

20-Year Milestone Luncheon

No company accomplishes greatness without a great team. John Jordan and Matt Kuiper have been dedicated members of the K2 family since the beginning. They have helped to establish the successful pillars of our company, and we are very appreciative of their endless contributions and exemplary leadership. To celebrate their 20 years with us, we had a milestone luncheon with our team where we honored all their hard work.

John started at K2 as a Foreman and is now the Director of Estimating. When asked what core value resonates most, he said Advancing Our Team. John explains that it’s his responsibility to keep advancing himself so that he can help his team grow. He sees the incredible future K2 has, and the potential people have to grow along with it. John’s wish for the company’s future is for the culture to remain family-centric, loving what we do and working well as a team.

Matt has worked in many different roles within K2. He has ranged from Apprentice, Estimator, and VP of Special Projects so he has learned almost every aspect of the organization. A pivotal moment in his career was when he and his project Foreman spent a a lot of time driving to various jobsites. During this time, he learned all about K2, leadership, job-specific documentation, and manpower/project allocation, which helped with his career growth. Matt would like to see the company establish a dedicated wellness program and looks forward to being a part of that in the future.

The luncheon was a great time for all attendees, including both the Jordan and Kuiper families. Founder, Dean Kredit, along with President/CEO, Jared Kredit, both gave speeches sparking inspiration and knowledge about the history of K2. We are overjoyed to have dedicated members of our K2 family, like John and Matt, who continue to lead us along successful paths. Having such teammates makes us excited for the future of our organization as we build a lasting legacy.

Mental Health Awareness

Mental Health Awareness

It is no secret that mental health in the construction industry is a major problem that needs to be addressed expeditiously.

We believe that to see a change it starts within the company. This is why we make continuous efforts to create the best work environment for each of our team members to live a well-balanced life.

K2’s dedication to our employees starts with providing unique resources like outsourcing professional counseling services that are free to all of our employees. We have robust PTO programs for each teammate which encourages them to take time as needed to support themselves or their families’ mental health needs. For employees who have suffered a loss, we offer bereavement as we understand grief takes time to process.

With Arizona being a juncture for economic development comes the increasing demand for construction. This growth along with year-round satisfactory weather has been the motive for many people to move to the state. Choosing K2 for one’s future comes with many personal and professional benefits. Every single teammate is treated with respect and is dedicated to creating opportunities for growth and development. The camaraderie amongst our field team is something we consistently harbor as a small company on the rise.

Putting the mental health of our employees first is crucial for their overall job satisfaction and the long-term success of our company. This is why it is important to us that we are investing in our team just as they invest in us!

Building a Future with 1Mission

Building a Future with 1Mission

Members of our team have had a hand in another awe-inspiring story thanks to our collaboration with @1Mission.

The recent trip down to Puerto Penasco, Mexico to build a home for the Ramos Aguilera Family provided our team with many memories to bring back home with us. Not only were we helping a family, but we were doing so alongside members of our own.

It was a huge milestone when Fernanda, a 21-year-old mother to 4-year-old Alison was able to purchase a land lot. She and her mother Miriam coordinate their work hours for sufficient childcare of Alison, and have worked very hard to reach the goal of owning their own property. Miriam and her teenage son, Jaziel, will continue to live with Fernanda as they all support one another in creating a safe future together. Being able to support their dream by building them a beautiful home was truly a blessing.

The great weather made this build a breeze, which allowed for lots of time to bond and have good conversations. Superintendent Ben Tarango’s wife, Nalleli, is bilingual and was able to get to know Fernanda and Alison really well. Fernanda expressed gratitude for her new home, asking that if or when we come back to Mexico, we make sure to stop by and say hello.

We are so thankful we can take the time out of our lives to contribute to those of incredible people like the Ramos Aguilera Family.

Women In Construction 2023 Recap

Women In Construction 2023 Recap

As of 2022, only 10.9% of the construction industry is female. Furthermore, only 5.8% of electricians are female. Women in Construction Week is an important time to pay homage to the women who have been working hard to keep driving the momentum of all the progress being made in the industry. K2 is very proud to have exceptional women on our team who continue to prove why more women should join the industry. We have talked to a few of our amazing women of K2 to further understand what it’s truly like being a woman in construction.

Olivia Thomson

“Ladies, it’s our turn. I move differently because I want something different.”

Olivia Thomson is a single mother who reminds everyone to be proud of themselves for choosing to get up every time you fall. She explains that women in the industry are often underestimated and if you want to be the best, you must be able to handle the worst. Working in construction has helped her develop a set of everyday morals which she now lives by: be independent, self-sufficient, and focus on self-improvement as growth is continuous.

Tia Pursel

“I get a huge boost of serotonin every time I complete something to my liking.”

Tia Pursel did not expect to love the industry as much as she does now. Since starting in construction, her passion and confidence have grown from the soft-spoken and unsure person she was. One thing she truly values is the support on every jobsite, mentioning that everyone is always welcoming and whenever she has a question there is always someone with the answer or willing to find it. She’s proud of herself for where she is in her career now, and that she brings her big voice and special attention to detail to every project.

Sophia Grant, Project Manager

“We all play a part in history and touch people’s lives.”

Wherever the location, Sophia Grant believes all in the construction industry have a hand in creating spaces that people utilize every day. She explains that with electrical specifically, it is the only trade that touches every system, bringing power to every device—and more so, bringing life to buildings.

Both in her personal life and professional experience, Sophia has learned the value of sharing knowledge. These different perspectives have helped her grow in her career, fueling her passion to diversify construction by mentoring others who help form the future of our industry.
